FAB to be launched during August 2009

FAB will be launched during August 2009 by Barnes Auctioneers. But just what is it? Many of us remember the iconic Thunderbirds television series produced in the 1960's, marionette stars such as Jeff Tracey, Virgil, Brains, and not forgetting Lady Penelope. Nor forgetting the machines either, like Thunderbirds 1 and 2 - and Tracey Island of course!
FAB isn't a Thunderbirds re-make, nor is it anything to do with puppets. It is just as exciting though - and it will be here soon.

Sale Report May 2009

Last Thursday's General Auction demonstrated that Barnes Auctioneers is able to offer the right balance of ensuring that our sellers achieve excellent results whilst at the same time making sure that our buyers manage to pick up a bargain or two.
Let's start with the sellers: how about a postcard album with no reserve, expected to sell for between £60 and £80, achieving £390? Or a set of four post-war Suffolk Regiment medals making £280 when the vendor was expecting little more than £50? But as always, it's the less obvious sales that clock up a decent return for the sellers, like the painted coffee table (lot 152) that sold for £48 with a reserve of just £12.
Buyers left with a smile on their face too - how about a job lot of glass including two Georgian rummers for £5? Or a tribal spear for £1. Or an antique Kodak camera for £18?
Our General Sales, which incorporate antiques, books, collectables, furniture, jewellery, pictures, and much much more, are going from strength to strength and we are already looking forward to our next auction on Thursday, 18th June. The observant amongst you will instantly realise that to be the third Thursday of the month (usually our auction is held on the second Thursday of the month) but we have had to change this time round only because St Andrew's Hall is not available to us on the previous week.
Business as usual tomorrow at The Cloisters Fair. We will be offering some unsold lots from Thursday, and paying out for those sellers who supported us during May. So do pop along to St Andrew's Hall in Norwich between 8am and 3pm to see us.

Gary Barnes on Bargain Hunt

Gary Barnes of Barnes Auctioneers confessed "Yes, it was me on Bargain Hunt" after friends and colleagues called for confirmation. Gary and his friend, Imogen, bought their items at the Festival of Antiques in Peterborough before selling them at Golding Young of Grantham. With the assistance of expert, Anita Manning, they powered to a famous...defeat at the hands of Peter and Carol Batt from Thetford. "We had an enjoyable time filming with the BBC" said Gary who went on to admit that the better team won on the day.
We have our own auction next week, on Thursday 12th March and are still accepting entries so do contact us to discuss your particular requirements on 01603 304337 or 07917 654721 or email us at barnesauctioneers@btinternet.com

Happy New Year

We are in the process of updating our calendar for 2009 (see link above right) which includes The Cloisters Fair tomorrow so do pop in and see us. There won't be a General Auction this month due to circumstances beyond our control, but we will be back on the 12th of February with a good 300+ lots. This year will see us out and about as we conduct our first house clearance auction in twenty years. That is something you cannot afford to miss so make sure that you re-visit this site regularly for details.
